SePUM Orients New Staff and Establishes Regular In-house Training for Office Workers

As part of continuing education on many aspects and intending to provide detailed information in the Adventist workplace, Pastor Edwin Magdadaro, Executive Secretary of Southeastern Philippine Union Mission (SePUM), conducted an Orientation on Organizational Policy for administrative secretaries, office assistants, and staff on October 9, 2024, at its conference room.

The policy review session covered organizational structure, ethical standards, and the church’s operational guidelines. It underscored the importance of adhering to the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s core mission and principles, especially in communication and public-facing roles.

In line with SeEPUM’s commitment to continuous learning, the Communication Department organized a follow-up in-house training on the proper application of the Adventist Church logo across various materials. This training is part of SePUM’s monthly program designed to help staff stay current with modern corporate practices.

During the session, the trainers walked participants through the proper use of the official Adventist logo in certificates, program covers, and slide presentations. They provided detailed instructions on maintaining consistency in size, placement, and color to ensure a unified brand identity across all communication materials.

“We aim to ensure that every material produced by our staff reflects the Church’s core values and maintains the integrity of the visual branding,” said Rhoen Catolico, SePUM’s Communication Director.

Catolico also presented a Road Signage proposal that will be used throughout the SePUM territory if approved.

“The identity of the Adventist Church is shaped not only by our beliefs and mission but also by how these are perceived through visual symbols and graphic elements that represent them. These elements must be consistent across all platforms to provide people with a clear and unified understanding of who we are,” he added.

Another training highlight was an introduction to Canva, a popular online design tool. The Communication Department, through its guest lecturer, Mr. Bjezrel Labajo, a Davao Mission office staff and Production Supervisor of Hope Channel Davao, demonstrated how the app can create visually appealing certificates and program materials that align with the Adventist Church’s visual brand standards.

Participants explored Canva through hands-on activities, learning to create designs, customize templates, adjust layouts, and incorporate Adventist branding into their designs. This practical approach allowed staff to gain confidence in creating professional-quality materials for future events and presentations.

Pr Edwin Magdadaro, who was in awe of its wonders, gave assignments for submission to the Communication department. Everyone became SePUM’s instant yet impressive designers in a couple of hours.

The policy orientation and the in-house training reflect SePUM’s dedication to empowering its workers with the knowledge and skills they need to excel in their roles. Understanding organizational policies and applying modern design tools ensures that every member of the SePUM team is well-prepared to uphold the Adventist Church’s mission in a rapidly changing world.

“We’re committed to ongoing training that helps our staff keep up with the times and stay ahead. See you again, next month,” Pr. Edwin Magdadaro shared.

With these efforts, SEPUM is poised to strengthen its impact through clear, consistent communication underpinned by professionalism and an unwavering commitment to its mission.

Ethical work habits are an integral part of the lives of many employees and students. The exact definition of “good” work ethics is subjective, but many people consider specific characteristics as ethical and others as unethical. Good work ethics often inspire others to act in similar ways.

Genesis 35:31-32 encourages us to have excellence in all kinds of work, “and He has filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills to make artistic designs.”
