Students From Taiwan Adventist International School Visit SePUM Headquarters

Twenty visitors from Taiwan Adventist International School (TAIS), a secondary boarding school operated by the Seventh-day Church in Yuchi, Nantou County, Taiwan, visited the Southeastern Philippine Union Mission (SePUM) headquarters on April 3.

The delegation, consisting of 1 Adventist, 15 non-Adventist students, and four faculty members led by Miss Rainbow Ke, left TAIS for their 8-day mission during their spring break to motivate its students to develop wisdom, live healthfully, care for others, and know God.

Their educational approach includes academic excellence, critical thinking, and a holistic educational philosophy that enriches the mind and body. Two of the visitors previously studied at Central Philippine Adventist College at Murcia, Bacolod, for several years.

They visited the Dalagdag Adventist Church in Calinan District, Davao City, for four days. They conducted feeding for children, a community clean-up drive, church repainting, and Sabbath with the brethren there. They also spent a day at Sahmyook International Academy in Gambudes, Arakan, Cotabato, and repainted the dormitory with white enamel, making the rooms look brighter.

They spent the rest of their vacation helping at Mission Foods by volunteering at the bakery and cafeteria. They also ate lunch with the directors and staff of SePUM and serenaded everyone with one Mandarin song and their theme song, “I Will Go.”

The school, established in 2008, has approximately 80 enrollees. This school year, uses English as a medium of instruction, and an adjacent Taiwan Adventist School uses Mandarin as a significant language. Most of their graduates pursue college studies at Taiwan Adventist College and settle on the same campus.

A powerful earthquake hit Taiwan today, but the delegation shared the good news that no one of their loved ones was hurt, nor was any family property harmed. They were unfazed by the tsunami threat because they relied upon God’s protection to live in Taiwan’s only non-coastal region. Furthermore, we all believed that their work of love in southeastern Mindanao was more impactful than the dangerous heatwaves and calamities threatening the world.

Ellen G. White, one of the founders of the Adventist Church, wrote: “Education is needed in the life of the people of God. It is the harmonious development of the physical, mental and spiritual powers”. (SePUM Communication)
