SCMM Holds AWR/Communication Summit
To ensure the effective and efficient use of modern communication facilities in our churches and to transmit audio-visual messages swiftly to the world, Pastor Heshbon Buscato, Communication and Media Director of the Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD), conducted the South Central Mindanao Mission SCMM-Wide AWR/Communication Summit at Kidapawan City Central Adventist Church on March 21.
AWR, or Adventist World Radio, has around 1,800 frequencies all over the world, 27 FM stations in Mindanao, and seven (7) of those are broadcasting in different areas of SCMM covering the provinces of North Cotabato, Maguindanao, Sultan Kudarat except the towns of Palembang, Kalamansig and Lebak, also a portion of Bagumbayan, including the cities of Kidapawan, Tacurong and Cotabato. Sir Nilo Cabatingan, Treasurer of SCMM, heads the Communication Department with the hardworking media team collaborating efforts for Hope Channel South Central Mindanao and its radio stations.
Pr. Welnie Miado and Pr. Edwin Seliote, SCMM President and Executive Secretary, respectively, and all directors, field workers, and believers all over the territory support the media ministry.
Pr. Buscato discussed relevant issues related to using various social media platforms to deliver the good news of salvation through the internet, airwaves, and other state-of-the-art devices. Aside from the established regional HOPE channels anywhere in the world, many churches use live streaming to convey the gospel, to educate people about God’s plan of salvation, and to introduce home viewing for those unable to visit their churches due to circumstances.
He explained many valuable insights about livestreaming more than the basic need for a camera, streaming software, a microphone, a computer, and a good internet connection. He gave hints on how to avoid long intervals or dead air, the participants’ gestures and language, lighting, and many more exciting discussions during the question and answer portion.
As one vital piece of information, Sir Rhoen Shane Peralta Catolico, Communication Director of the Southeastern Philippine Union Mission (SePUM), deliberated on adequately using the church logo. To retain identity and reputation, brands like Hyundai, Apple, Nike, and many more always emphasize the correct use of their logo and that the misuse of it matters. Sir Rhoen continued the lively discussion about the 7th-grid layout, the appropriate color and font in the logo, and other details of vital importance, especially the correct way of writing the name: it should be Seventh-day Adventist Church and no other way.
The afternoon summoned more ears to listen to the quality of sound or timbre needed during church worship and activities. Not to promote brands, but Pr. Buscato gave comparisons, specifications, and price details of different audio equipment suitable for the church. They may vary in intensity, resonance, reverberation, and other factors leading to their audibility; our youth should be trained in audio-visual manipulation, thus manipulating their attention from the world’s lures to the charms of Jesus via the media ministry. Now is the time, and our churches are the right places for creating virtual supermarkets of Adventist programs and contents, digital discipleship, and online sharing that Jesus will come tomorrow or sooner.
“In the cities of today, where there is so much to attract and please, the people can be interested in no ordinary efforts. Ministers of God’s appointment will find it necessary to put forth extraordinary efforts in order to arrest the attention of the multitudes. And when they succeed in bringing together a large number of people, they must bear messages of a character so out of the usual order that the people will be aroused and warned. They must use every means that can possibly be devised to cause the truth to stand out clearly and distinctly. This is from the writings of Ellen G. White, Testimonies for the Church, 9:109.
“We are the light of the world” (Mat 5:14), instruments of the three angels proclaiming the everlasting gospel and calls for the restoration of the true worship of God as Creator because the judgment hour has arrived. (Rev. 14:6,7); the other warns against all humanly-originated forms of worship and beliefs that are not entirely based on God’s Word. (Rev. 14:8). Finally, the third angel proclaims God’s solemn warning against worshiping the beast and his image. (Rev.14:9-12) Though Scripture symbolically portrays these messages as being proclaimed by three angels, God’s people—His last-day church—deliver them to the world. “Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.” Amen!
