A Pastor and Medical Expert is Adventist Hospital-Davao’s New President

On its 58th year of existence as flagbearer of Jesus’ health ministry in Davao, the largest city in the world, the 75-bed Adventist Hospital Davao, Inc. (AHD)(formerly Davao Sanitarium and Hospital), through its Board of Trustees, has voted Pastor Jonathan Toero Casio, MD, MPH, MAHAd, DPA, FPCHA, as its new President on April 3.

Casio graduated elementary school from our church school, Western Mindanao Academy, at his birthplace in Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur. He finished his secondary education at Lapulapu City in Cebu. He finished AB Theology at Mountain View College in Valencia City before moving up to Adventist University of the Philippines to gain a diploma in Master of Public Health.

He also completed a Master of Public Administration and a Master of Arts in Hospital Administration and later received his doctorate of Medicine diploma from Southwestern University.

He became a Church Pastor at Capitol Center Church, Cebu City, a District Pastor of South Cebu District, Associate Chaplain of Adventist Hospital Cebu before being elected as Health Ministries, Family Ministries and Communication Director of Central Visayan Conference in Cebu City and flew to Uganda, East Africa to serve as Professor and Research Coordinator of Kampala International University; Head of the Preventive Community Medicine and Public Health of the University’s School of Medicine and Church Pastor of the University Adventist Church. He has also served as Administrator /Hospital Director of Cagayan de Oro City Medical Center.

His wife, Sarah Dy, is also a doctor, while his daughter Vance Deo Lass Dy and son Dwight Deo Lad Dy are both doctors and Medical technologists, and Princess Deo Lass Dy is a pharmacist and an aspiring doctor.

Committed to raising the standards of health reforms and education to the huge populace of Davao regions and nearby territories, Adventist Hospital Davao, under the new leadership of a pastor and medical professional, will continue to bring the message of salvation through various means, introducing healthy lifestyles to its patients and the healing power of God through earnest prayers.

Aside from its pastoral services, which offer prayer, counseling, music ministry, health education, and vegetarian food, “healthcare services included 24-hour emergency service; inpatient care services; major and minor surgical operations; intensive care units (adult and neonatal); outpatient clinics; clinical laboratory; imaging (x-ray, ultrasound, 2D echocardiogram, and CT scan); pharmacy; well-baby clinic and immunization; infertility and women’s diseases clinic; endoscopy and colonoscopy; and hemodialysis.

Doctors’ specializations include cardiology, cataract surgery, colorectal surgery, dental, dermatology, ear nose and throat–head and neck surgery, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general surgery, internal medicine, laparoscopic surgery (cholecystectomy), nephrology, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, pediatrics, and pulmonology.
It has board-certified physicians, competent and compassionate nurses, management, staff, modern medical facilities, and medical technology. It operates under the system of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. It is one of approximately 229 Adventist hospitals and sanitariums worldwide, 10 of which are in the Philippines. Adventist Hospital–Davao serves the largest city in the country, and being attentive to safety standards, it is the first hospital in Davao City to advocate smoking cessation ever since its operation and by the City Government of Davao Ordinance 367-12, Series of 2012: Anti-Smoking Campaign. The hospital’s chaplaincy offers free smoking cessation seminars.
