DAVAO CITY—The Southeastern Philippine Union Mission (SePUM) Treasury and Accounting Departments joined the SUNPLUS Training held at Japanese Tunnel, Davao City, gathering around 30 participants from its five mission fields and South Philippine Adventist College (SPAC).

Founded in 2001, SUNPLUS is the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s global financial management and accounting system, designed to unify and strengthen financial stewardship across institutions worldwide. Today, it connects more than 1,400 church and institutional entities in 134 countries, providing a common language for financial reporting and management.
Church leaders emphasize that SUNPLUS is more than software—it is a mission-driven tool safeguarding resources entrusted by members. By integrating payroll systems, advanced reporting tools, and cloud-based access, SUNPLUS ensures that tithes, offerings, and institutional funds are managed with integrity and efficiency.

SUNPLUS is based on Infor SunSystems but customized for the Church’s unique needs. Enhanced with the Adventist Payroll System and Query & Analysis Reporting Tool, it provides unified accounting, payroll integration, advanced analytics, and cloud access—ensuring transparency, efficiency, and mission support across the global Adventist network.
The Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD), the Adventist headquarter supervising eleven countries in the territory, has sent Mrs. Annie Asoy, SSD Sunplus Services Director and Mr. Vicmar Gandeza, Sunplus Services Manager, to share informative lectures and facilitate discussions.

Grounded in the biblical principle of accountability and honesty, Colossians 3:23 reminds: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” This vision underpins the system’s mission of faithful stewardship.
The SePUM team, headed by Treasurer Sir Laurence Lamera, underscored that financial transparency is not simply about compliance but about mobilizing resources for education, healthcare, evangelism and a complete array of ministries to reach out variety of people in the territory which includes Davao Mission (DM), Northern Davao Mission (NDM), Southeastern Caraga Mission (SCM), South Central Mindanao Mission (SCMM), Southern Mindanao Mission (SMM) and South Philippine Adventist College (SPAC). Adventist Hospital Davao (AHD), among other health institutions of the church, is using another unique system best suited for their financial management needs.

“It was a great opportunity to be able to attend the said meeting. The Seminar was a blast. It was full of learnings. It really equips us more to be efficient in our responsibilities as accountants for Christ. Mr. Zesher Dawn R. Montero, CPA, commented. “We will go back to our respective missions full of knowledge and hunger for avenues where we will be more of us to the furtherance of God's mission,” the young accountant of SCMM, added.

As SUNPLUS marked its 25th anniversary in 2026, leaders reflected on its impact. By standardizing accounting practices worldwide, the system has reduced costs, improved oversight, and strengthened trust among members. In an era of global interconnectedness, SUNPLUS stands as a model of how technology can serve faith communities in their mission.
With the theme, “Mastering Sunplus: Strengthening Financial Stewardship”, the training highlighted the meaning of “stewards”"a person morally responsible for the careful use of money, time, talents or other resources, especially with respect to the principles or need of a community or group".

Ellen G. White, the church pioneer whose gift was her pen, wrote: “All we possess is the Lord’s, and we are accountable to Him for the use we make of it. In the use of every penny, it will be seen whether we love God supremely and our neighbor as ourselves. Money has great value, because it can do great good. In the hands of God’s children, it is food for the hungry, drink for the thirsty, and clothing for the naked.... But money is of no more value than sand, only as it is put to use in providing for the necessities of life, in blessing others, and advancing the cause of Christ. Christ’s Object Lessons, 351.
