With the conviction that media ministry is a powerful tool to propagate the gospel of Jesus to every corner of the world, 42 media workers and volunteers from the five missions and institutions of the Southeastern Philippine Union Mission (SePUM) joined MEDIALAB v.1.0 held on August 12–14, with the timely theme: “Empowering Studios, Enriching the Mission.”
Hosted by the Communication Department of SePUM, led by Sir Rhoen Shane P. Catolico, Director for Communication, Media, Public Affairs, and Religious Liberty (PARL), the event underscored the vital role of social media and broadcast platforms in sharing messages that lead audiences to Jesus.
The delegates included writers, producers, and technical creatives from SePUM’s five missions, along with media personnel from Adventist Hospital Davao (AHD) and South Philippine Adventist College (SPAC).
Pastor Carlito Quidet, Jr., newly elected Director of Communication and Media for the Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD)—the 11-country headquarters of the Seventh-day Adventist Church—shared rich insights on media ministry. A former Dean of Theology, writer, editor, and union director for Communication, Media, and PARL, he previously served as SSD’s Mission Refocus Director.
He emphasized, “Communication plays a vital role in proclaiming the gospel with clarity, relevance, and compassion—bridging generations, cultures, and communities. It empowers discipleship, fosters unity, and amplifies the three angels’ messages across every platform and context.”
Pastor Clement Augustus Murray, a globally acclaimed Adventist minister, evangelist, and media executive, has preached in over 40 countries across six continents. A native of Buffalo, New York, he joined the Adventist Church at age 10 and later led both parents to faith.
Currently serving as Vice President for Media at Secrets Unsealed and SUMtv, Pastor Murray has hosted The Overcomers and contributed to global broadcasts on 3ABN, ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX. Formerly Production Manager and Host of 3ABN Today, he also co-created the Free Indeed broadcast and numerous commercial and religious movies.
With 18 years in pastoral ministry, he is also an author, musician, and recipient of honors from the Adventist Church, New York State, and the U.S. government. His sessions covered emotions, imagery, audio, messaging, editing, techniques, terminology, and job functions—essential elements of impactful video production.
Pastor Murray emphasized, “High-quality video content powerfully conveys truth with clarity, emotion, and excellence—capturing hearts, shaping faith, and expanding the reach of the gospel in a visually driven world.”
Highlighting SePUM’s support for its media ministries across its missions and institutions, Elder Laurence Lamera, SePUM Treasurer, rallied behind the importance of the work by quoting Mrs. Ellen G. White, a Spirit-filled writer whose works inspire the church: “The Lord designs that the presentation of this message shall be the highest, greatest work carried on in the world at this time.” (Testimonies, Vol. 6, p. 11). He thanked all media missionaries for their creativity and dedication, reminding, “Time is short; workers for Christ are needed everywhere.” (Evangelism, p. 22).
Pastor Sherman Fiedacan, President of Hope Channel Philippines, led the Commitment Ceremony, reminding everyone: “We and our media resources exist to share Jesus by producing and broadcasting Bible-based programs that reflect God’s love, proclaim the everlasting gospel, and prepare people for the soon return of Jesus.”
In totality, the training reaffirmed one shared objective in digital evangelism: “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8)
