The weeks of August became more productive and Spirit-filled. The Quiet Hour Ministries, with their President, Pastor Edward Marton, in partnership with international collaborators and local volunteers, spearheaded a dynamic mission initiative across four locations within the Southern Mindanao Mission territory.
Founded in 1937 or 88 years ago, the California-based Quiet Hour Ministries partners with the worldwide Adventist Church to share the gospel through mission trips, media, church construction, and medical outreach. Each year, it helps thousands hear the message of hope through face-to-face ministry and community service.
Elder Marton elaborated that “the purpose of the ministry is sharing Jesus and make sure that people will have a close relationship with Him and this partnership with you in the Philippines will continue as we share Jesus’ love with everyone.”
A dedicated team of 18 missionaries from California, USA, was strategically divided and deployed to serve in Tupi, General Santos City, Polomolok, and Alabel. Their daily outreach included medical missions, church planting, and evangelistic seminars—bringing both physical care and spiritual nourishment to the communities.
Beyond spiritual outreach, the initiative also focused on infrastructure and sponsorship efforts. In Sitio Kalondafok, Brgy. Topland, Koronadal City, missionaries and volunteers constructed a new church to serve the local community. Meanwhile, in Purok Paraiso, Brgy. Esperanza, Koronadal City, another church was established through sponsorship support.
SMM was more than happy and grateful for these Quiet Hour missionaries: Louella Simmons, Edward Marton, Maddi October, Isa Stenson, Cassidy Mangio-Gonzales, Vilma Hodgson, Susee Moturi, Bev Collingham, Mark Harris, Gary Carr, Gary Davis, Loanne Taylor, Jacqueline Cooke, Patty Cerna, Samantha Arevalo Reyes, Vivian Hopkins, Cora Gibbon, Althea Morris and Maria Sassoui. They inspired people with their words filled with truth and hope while their healing hands in their outreach activities and hard labor in building churches solidified the connection of the believers with our God, the foundation of our faith.
This week-long endeavor showcased the power of collaborative ministry—uniting international workers, local church members, and volunteers in a shared mission to uplift lives and strengthen faith across this part of Mindanao.
The mission yielded remarkable results, with over 100 individuals publicly committing their lives to Christ through baptism and conversions are progressing as beautiful aftermaths of their memorable visit.
Ellen G. White, the American writer who also did numerous missionary trips and as inspirer of believers, wrote for God’s people, saying: “The church of Christ is God's appointed agency for the salvation of men. Its mission is to carry the gospel to the world. And the obligation rests upon all Christians. Everyone, to the extent of his talent and opportunity, is to fulfill the Saviour's commission. The love of Christ, revealed to us, makes us debtors to all who know Him not. God has given us light, not for ourselves alone, but to shed upon them.”, Steps to Christ, chapter 9, The Work and the Life.
