Adventist World Radio's 100 Languages Stations Training: A Milestone in Bangkok

Adventist World Radio (AWR) concluded a groundbreaking training program to empower its team to produce and broadcast content in 100 languages globally. This initiative, held at the Hilton Hotel Sukhumvit in Bangkok, was designed to bolster professional skills and reinforce AWR’s mission of connecting with diverse communities through radio and internet broadcasting.

The training, which ended this afternoon, primarily targeted participants from the AWR Asia/Pacific region, encompassing Southern Asia, Southern Asia-Pacific, Northern Asia-Pacific, the South Pacific, and the Chinese territory. These areas are central to AWR’s objective of spreading messages of hope and faith through broadcasting.

Pr. Robert Dulay, the Asia/Pacific Director, inaugurated the training with a powerful keynote address. He underscored the crucial role this training played in advancing the church’s global mission and reaffirmed AWR’s steadfast dedication to Radio, Evangelism, and Communication. “This commitment is the foundation of our work, and your belief in it propels our success to the ministry and the church,” he stated. “We need to focus on our mission and speak their (the people’s) languages to reach ‘every tribe, kindred, and tongue,'” he said further.

Meanwhile, Pr. Roseller Zamora, Associate Director of AWR Asia/Pacific region, introduced Dulay and recharges participants during the second-day session with his devotional message– “What are you doing with your time?” He quipped. “We need to make use of it and grow! Never stop yearning for growth!”

Neville Neveling, AWR’s Director for Internet Radio, led the sessions, highlighting radio’s fundamental purpose: educating, informing, and entertaining. The agenda covered a wide array of vital topics, including:

  • Understanding Radio: Fundamentals of radio operations and management
  • Interviewing Techniques: Mastering the art of conducting compelling interviews
  • Microphone Mastery: Technical aspects of using microphones
  • Internet Radio Setup: Establishing Internet radio stations
  • Using AWR Live: Utilizing the internet streaming platform for broadcasts

The second-day sessions were equally enriching and engaging participants in the actual setup and technicalities of the theories.

  • Audio Mixing and Audio Interchange Formats (AIF): Advanced audio production techniques
  • Mobile Broadcasting: Leveraging mobile technology for broadcasting
  • Music Integration: Selecting and integrating music into radio programs
  • Community Involvement: Engaging local communities through radio
  • Broadcast to Baptism Initiatives: Using radio to support evangelistic efforts

This training transcended technical skill development; it was about fostering a collective vision to reach a global audience with messages of hope and faith. As participants delved into these comprehensive sessions, AWR moved closer to its ambitious goal of broadcasting in 100 languages, making a significant global impact.

As one participant said, “The role in this mission was not just vital, but integral to our success, and their efforts are highly valued and commendable.”

Since 1971, Adventist World Radio, the international broadcast ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, has been delivering the hope of salvation to unreached people groups in their languages. Through shortwave, AM/FM, and internet broadcasts, AWR connects listeners worldwide with the message of God’s love. This mission, to spread the message of hope and faith to diverse communities, is one that we all share and are committed to.
