The Southeastern Philippine Union Mission (SePUM) headquarters recently concluded a successful training session on SunPlus, the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s accounting software, led by Annie Loreen Velasco-Asoy, the SunPlus Service Director for the Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD), and Vicmar Gandeza, SSD SunPlus Service Manager. This specialized training aimed to empower SePUM’s treasury, finance, and administrative teams with advanced skills in digital financial management.
Over the course of the training, Asoy and Gandeza shared their comprehensive knowledge and hands-on expertise, helping participants deepen their understanding of the SunPlus system. Through interactive sessions, they covered essential aspects of the software, focusing on tools and strategies that streamline accounting processes, improve reporting accuracy, and enhance compliance with global financial standards. The training also emphasized data integrity, transparency, and financial stewardship—key pillars in the Adventist Church’s commitment to responsible financial management.
Reflecting on the training, Asoy expressed her enthusiasm for the SePUM team’s eagerness to embrace new methodologies, noting, “This training marks a significant step in strengthening our financial practices across SePUM. The participants’ dedication shows a clear commitment to improving our Church’s mission-driven financial management.”
Gandeza echoed his sentiments, adding that “the adaptability and enthusiasm of SePUM staff are crucial in making our financial systems more efficient and transparent, aligning with the Church’s values of integrity and accountability.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Laurence Lamera, Chief Finance Officer/Treasurer of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Southeastern Philippines headquarters, was happy to see his department’s human resources as they actively and positively participated in the training.
Participants were given practical exercises and real-time troubleshooting scenarios, empowering them to navigate complex accounting tasks and encouraging confidence in using SunPlus to support daily financial operations. The training fostered camaraderie and a shared commitment to excellence, equipping SePUM with the tools necessary to enhance operational efficiency and transparency.
As the training ends, Asoy says to the group, “Who would ever think that SunPlus is boring to this [SePUM] group of people?”
