As a result of academic excellence and the implementation of Republic Act 11713 or “Excellence in Teacher Education Act,” South Philippine Adventist College of Matan-ao, Davao del Sur, gained the recognition from Commission on Higher Education (CHED)-Region XI and Association of Region XI Teacher Education Institution, as one of the high-performing Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) in the region for its outstanding commitment to quality and excellence in teacher education.
The recognition, given at a ceremony conducted at Sunny Point Plaza, Maa Highway, Davao City on September 10, came after SPAC recorded a 100% passing rate for both Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) and Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) first-time takers in the March 2025 Board Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (BLEPT).
Republic Act 11713 enacted on April 27, 2022, is a landmark law that strengthens teacher education in the Philippines by enhancing the Teacher Education Council, institutionalizing scholarships, and professional development through the National Educators’ Academy of the Philippines. In recognizing outstanding Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs), the law emphasizes criteria such as program quality, licensure exam performance, accreditation status, and commitment to continuous improvement and innovation in teacher preparation.
As SPAC continues to uphold excellence in teacher preparation mobilizing the hard work of SPAC’s faculty, the perseverance of its students, and the support of its academic community, may its mission echo the counsel of Mrs. Ellen G. White, an American writer whose influence strengthens the church: “True education means more than the pursual of a certain course of study. It means more than a preparation for the life that now is. It has to do with the whole being… and prepares the student for the joy of service in this world and for the higher joy of wider service in the world to come.” (Education, p. 13)
